MONKEYBONE is much like director Henry Selick’s other movies, NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH. Stu must find a way back to the living world and his loving girlfriend, Julie, before Monkeybone permanently takes over for him. Monkeybone’s plan is to infect the world with nightmares so that Downtown will survive forever. Monkeybone, however, deceives Stu and goes back to the real world in Stu’s body. ![]() Stu plots to escape from this demonic, mythic underworld by stealing an exit pass from Death. There, he meets his creation, the rude and obnoxious Monkeybone. A car accident sends Stu to Downtown, a fantasy land between life and death where freakish residents and mythical gods thrive off people’s nightmares. MONKEYBONE is about Stu Miley, creator of the popular cartoon character, Monkeybone.
